Data Sovereignty

Know Where Your Financial Data Is Processed

Canadian hosting is used wherever TBR controls the client-record stack; external processors are disclosed plainly.

What PIPEDA Requires

The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act governs how Canadian businesses collect, use, store, and disclose personal information. Bookkeeping, payroll, and tax files contain exactly that: names, SIN-adjacent payroll data, bank transactions, and CRA account information. Compliance is not optional. It directly governs how your financial data must be handled.

Why US-Based Bookkeeping Platforms Create Compliance Risk

Many cloud bookkeeping and payroll platforms route data through US-based servers. When a US company processes your client or employee data, that data is potentially subject to US legal jurisdiction — including requests under the Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data Act, commonly known as the Cloud Act. For a Canadian small business handing over bank feeds and payroll, this creates a compliance risk that most vendors do not disclose.

How TBR Handles This

Every TBR engagement is designed to keep Canadian financial data on Canadian infrastructure wherever we control the stack. That is a design choice to reduce US legal exposure — PIPEDA does not legally require data to be stored in Canada. This website itself uses some US-hosted processors for intake, email, and voice; those are listed on our Privacy page. We can provide documentation of how we handle client financial records on request.

What This Means For Your Business

If you operate in Canada, the people who handle your books, payroll, and CRA records need to meet the same data-handling standards as the rest of your operation. TBR documents where client records and website intake data are processed so you can assess that exposure accurately.
